Fifty Shades Freed
Okay. I've read all three books now. Other than a lot of "intimate" scenes, there isn't much of a plot. What was the point of book three? It could have ended after book two. I'm surprised I kept reading after book one. Book one was depressing. Book two was improved. Book three felt like we were repeating the same old song and dance over and over and over again. (Now I have a Tim McGraw and Nelly song in my head.) Oh, Christian can't move on... Oh, Anastasia angers him for the millionth time... Blah blah blah. I do not like how contollive Christian is and how the author makes it seem like its okay. Really??? Let's teach all the young women in the world who read these books because of all the hype and the "scenes" that being submissive to a man and taking abuse is a good thing. Sheesh! Yes, I consider leaving marks on someone, eveb if they "claim" to enjoy it, abuse. Honestly, now I'm wondering why I waisted my time reading them.
The only thing I took from these books was a craving for ice cream. LOL! I did have an ice cream cone at Winamac's Power from the Past. It was to die for! I have lost over 36 pounds now! with this darn heat, I haven't been walking, so I haven't lost as much as I had planned on this summer. I think I can lose more when I go back to work. I can't wait for that! Honestly, summer break is too long. I wouldn't mind going year round with breaks throughout the year.
It has taken me forever to type all of this on my phone, so I am going to go now. Sorry, if there are typos! My thumbs are trying to type quickly!

Fifty Shades Darker
Was not darker at all. LOL! It was not near as dark and depressing. I liked it so much more! Yes, I'm finished with it already. That's how much I enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. Now I'm going to start Fifty Shades Freed.
Sadly, our DSL box isn't working right now. I think it got fried in the storms yesterday morning. It will take 3-5 days for our next box to come from TDS. Blech! I used my cell phone to make a moblie hot spot. It's so much easier to blog on the laptop than on my phone.
We went to Power from the Past in Winamac tonight. Levi Riggs had a concert there tonight. He played Jason Aldean's Fly Over States, so of course I had a great time! ;-) I'll post pictures soon. Hopefully tomorrow.

50 Shades of Grey
I keep hearing about it, so I decided to read it. I picked it up on kindle at my library yesterday. I started it last night, read for a few hours, picked it up this morning and finished it about 3:00. Wow! I did do some laundry and dishes in that time as well. It is definitely a page turner (or button on kindle). Very detailed. It leaves me feeling like Hemingway does. The books start off interesting, but then gets depressing. You keep turning the page because you think things have to get better at some point, right? Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms comes to mind. It's a depressing story of a man during WWI. He knocks up a nurse, whom he doesn't love. You keep turning the pages wanting things to start looking up, but no. The book ends with the nurse dying in childbirth. Really?!?!?!
50 Shades of Grey is the same to me. How can you love someone so controlling? And be submissive??? There isn't a submissive bone in my body, so I definitely don't understand that one. It is definitely a book only mature people should read.
Luckily book 2 and 3 are also on the kindle. I imagine I'll be drawn to start book 2 later tonight. Things have to start looking up at some point, right??????

One Month...
Until we are back to school! I am ready! Baseball is over for us. It was so funny. Zac put his baseball stuff on the shelf in the garage when we got home from the last game, then picked up his football to go start practicing. Football will be here before we know it!
As for baseball, we lost at semi-state. I am proud of my son! There was quite a bit of drama with the team, especially towards the end of the season. There were times we thought about quitting, but Shawn and I didn't want to teach the kids that it is okay to quit. Out of 66 kids, he was 1 out of 12 chosen for the all-star team. I told Zac that since he was chosen out of so many, we needed to see it through to the end. We want to instill a good "work" ethic in our kids. I'm also big on manners, and boy do they use them now. ;-) I can't believe how much the kids have grown physically, as well as mentally. They are so much more mature now.
I am glad they are still young enough to want to help me clean! We worked our behinds off today cleaning the house spotless, then weeding the flower garden. We also washed my Durango. After that, I made supper and we swam in the pool for an hour when Shawn got home from work. I am exhausted. My house now smells like pine-sol and Scentsy.
Shawn just asked me, "What'd the keys on the laptop ever do to you?" He said I'm "hammering" away on them. LOL!

It's been 9 days...
Since I last blogged. All-star baseball games have kept us busy. That, and I've been reading a lot. Mostly smut books, as Shawn calls them.
I'm sitting here and I can no longer smell my Scentsy pots. Time to chance the wax. I've lost 33lbs total now. I haven't been walking because its been so unbearably hot out, therefore I've only lost .2 lbs in 2-3 weeks. Oops!
After my last post about the drought, we have managed to "get" rain twice. I say get, because its like winning the lottery! It rained 1.1 inches the first time and then 1.4 inches the second time. Yeah for 2.5 inches of rain. Sadly, it was too late for some fields. I was discussing this with an uncle recently. The farmer he works for has some corn fields that produced no ears. The corn planted early appears to be the fields hit the worst. Since the farmer has cows, he plans on chopping the fields for silage. It's sad. I've heard of some fields of corn north of here being plowed and planted to beans. If we don't get rain, the money spent on planting beans won't amount to much either. I walked 5 rows into a neighboring field yesterday and pulled an ear of corn. I broke it in half and it had only 14 rows of kernels. Last year a lot of fields had 18 rows. It's not a good year.
Does anyone know why the tassels look different? Is it because of the lack of rain? Are they spread open more? Are they more yellow? Is It because the corn is so short, we’re not used to seeing them this well? I’m not sure, but to me, they look somehow different.

Drought

I was very surprised to see corn fields tasseling. It's not July. I guess the lack of rain is the cause. These pictures were taken yesterday evening. The second picture was a field by Flora. It hardly looks like corn. The fields are desperate for rain. Last night the rain went North of us. Today it went south of us. This is not fun...

Drought Stress at Pollination
Dry conditions will have the greatest impact on corn that was tasseling and pollinating during the drought. Pollination requires the release of pollen from the tassels and capture of that pollen by the silks. The pollen then travels down each silk to fertilize the ovule. Dry weather will reduce pollination in a couple of ways. First, dry weather will delay silking and could result in pollen dropping before silks are exposed. Second, dry weather will cause the silks to dry out quicker and reduce the ability of the silks to capture and move pollen to the ovules. Nothing can be done to regain unfertilized ovules after pollination. Adequate moisture following poor pollination will help the fertilized ovules develop kernels, but yield losses are certain with poorly pollinated corn. Yield losses from a drought during pollination can be as high as 100% but more often the yield losses are much less.
The price of corn is going to skyrocket in this area!
